You’ve heard the saying that “practice makes perfect?” Well we believe practice makes happiness – for farmers, cows, and the planet.
Most folks know that ice cream is made with milk, cream and lots of other good stuff! But have you ever wondered what milk is really made of? That might sound like a strange question at first but it turns out that milk is made of many, many good things: healthy land, dedicated farmers, smart energy and a strong local community to name a few… put 'em together and you’ve got some happy cows.
In Canada all our products are made with Canadian Dairy certified by the Dairy Farmers of Canada Association.
Our friends at the DFC association explain what makes Canadian Dairy so special; “Canadian milk standards are among the highest in the world. Our dairy farmers are committed to delivering their best on taste, safety, and quality.
Producing quality milk is hard work. Many controls need to be respected to ensure every glass of milk as perfect as can be, but that’s what makes dairy farming so fulfilling. Producing 100% Canadian milk that’s safe, high in quality, sustainable, delicious, and nutritious is a great source of pride for our dairy farmers.”

In both Europe and the US Ben & Jerry’s is focused on the Caring Dairy™ programme, with over 300 participating farms in America and Europe, is helping farmers to make a difference from soil to sunshine and everything in between. Through the use of a simple, web-based self assessment, farmers are able to look at their operation with fresh eyes. And since every dairy farm is one of a kind, just like our flavours, we help each farmer develop a unique action plan to improve his or her practices. In exchange for participating, Caring Dairy™ farmers get a little extra for their effort. We are really proud of our European and US teams for focusing on the Caring Dairy Programme.
